Cara Charlie and I are all

New awards more than $6
Million
- Jeremy Brown (PI) and the
EAR and SENSE lab groups
(co-pi's Manohar Bance and Rob
Adamson) were awarded an
Atlantic Innovation award
totalling $3.8 million for
developing new ear imaging
technologies, and
- Danny Boyd, in Applied Oral
Science and School of
Biomedical Engineering with
Mark Filiaggi, Bob Abraham
(Interventional Radiology),
Michael Dunbar (Orthopedics),
and Barbara Campbell (ILI /
Commercialization) were
awarded 2.5 million for
'Minimally invasive systems
for bone augmentation'
SBME Members were also
involved in 2 create programs
- Manohar Bance and Don Weaver
are co-investigator’s on a
newly announced NSERC CREATE
training program in
neurosciences called RADIANT
for $1.65 million, (PI Aaron
Newman - cross appointed
Otolaryngology and Psychiatry)
along with Ryan Darcy at NRC
Biodiagnostics and others at
Dal.
- Mike Lee is a
co-investigator on a recently
awarded cross-Canada
Biomaterials program led by
PI
at
University.

Devices at Business
competitions:
And many of you may not have
heard, but Florentin Wilfart,
PhD Candidate in SBME and his
team Purisorb Inc. (MBA students
Christopher Humphries and Zach
Silbernagel) coached by SBME
faculty Dr. Michael Schmidt and
David Roach as part of NSERC
BioMedic training program,
placed 2nd at the Nebraska
Innovation Competition and
is now invited to two top-tier
international level
competitions! They have been
doing extremely well, placing
first at Apex for the Atlantic
region and 2nd at IVEY, and now
they proceed to the Venture Labs
Investment Competition (formerly
Moot Corp)—the Super Bowl of
investment competitions—in May,
where they will compete against
31 of the top 32 business plan
teams in the world. They will
also be competing at the Rice
Business plan competition as one
of 42 selected form 510
applications. Good luck

received a NSHRF Engage award
and Mark Filiaggi
was a co-applicant on this
award.
Michael Dunbar
won an Award of Excellence at
the 2011 AAOS. Revision of
a Ceramic Hip for Fractured
Ceramic Components.
Michael also won the 2010 J.
Edouard Samson Award. The
premier award for orthopaedic
research in Canada, the $15,000
J. Edouard Samson Award
recognizes the best early career
orthopaedic research over a five
(5) year or more period at a
Canadian centre.
